Chit Chat SMP '18
Night Racing! Prime time on Fox Sports on Saturday night. This weekend could influence the sport for the next decade. Or not...
Replay at 3pm on Sunday on Ten for those without Fox. Should be a cool, clear night. Tyre wear will be low, fuel use high and even the aero impact of the cars could change with the dense air. 300km, no fuel drop, but 3 pit stops required. Fire breathing cars, glowing brakes and shiny liveries. The cars should look great on TV. Lets hope the racing delivers.

Re: Chit Chat SMP '18
What looked like being a red hot battle between McLaughlin and Lowndes late in the race was scuttled by the safety car. That introduced van Gis and Whincup. A great battle between McLaughlin and Gis, but McLaughlin's slightly worn tyres cost him, the RBHRT cars coming out on top.
The cars looked good under lights and will look even better next year with lessons learnt. A big crowd at SMP, just shy of 34,000 the officials figures posted. We'll wait and see the TV figures to further judge its success. Other notes: - Interesting to see both WAU suffer the same front upright failure within about 2 laps of each other. They are pushing their development - Good race speed from the BJR cars, but poor qualifying and an early spin for Slade hurt them - Mostert was a mile ahead of the other 3 Tickford cars - McLaughlin needs more support from Coulthard

Re: Chit Chat SMP '18
With 888 having 3 quick cars #17 had to cover closest which was Lowndes leaving him vulnerable to the other two when they got the Safety Car at just the right time.Unfortunately McLaughlan is fighting a lone battle against the 3 #888 cars and he is getting no support from Coultard.Great to watch under lights and even watched the Porches as they looked great.

Re: Chit Chat SMP '18
The race rated 175,000 viewers on Fox Sports on Saturday night, very strong figures and up on the more usual 140-150,000 other races rate on Fox.

Fantastic presentation from Fox (in spite of Skaiffe). How good has Russell been, fair ,honest and very forthright. Many complain about Free to Air not happening but no private TV company would show V8's in prime time.Great weekend! |
